Alder Smoked Glass Cylinder Vase with Solid Wood Base

A Vase Designed Around Verticality

The Alder Vase is built on a simple, confident proportion: a tall, slender glass cylinder rising from a compact, solid wood base. Where many decorative vases spread their visual weight outward, the Alder does the opposite, drawing the eye upward along its clean vertical line. This makes it a natural fit for displaying tall, sculptural stems — bare branches, flowering cuttings, or trailing greenery — that need height and open space to be fully appreciated rather than crowded into a shorter, wider vessel.

The cylinder itself is finished in a soft smoked grey tone, translucent enough to let light pass through and reveal the stems within, while still adding a quiet depth that fully clear glass wouldn’t provide. Beneath it, a solid wood base in a warm walnut-toned finish grounds the piece, introducing a natural material contrast against the cool, smoky glass above.

Why a Wood Base Changes the Feel of a Glass Vase

Most glass vases rest directly on whatever surface they’re placed on, with nothing to visually separate the vessel from the table or shelf beneath it. The Alder’s wood base changes that relationship entirely. By elevating the glass cylinder on a distinct, solid foundation, the vase reads as a considered, two-material object rather than a single glass form — closer in spirit to a piece of small furniture than a purely decorative vessel.

This pairing of glass and wood also makes the vase considerably easier to style within a room. The warm wood tone bridges naturally with wood furniture, flooring, and other natural materials nearby, while the smoked glass cylinder keeps the piece from feeling overly rustic or heavy, maintaining the lightness typically associated with glass vessels.

Why Choose the Alder Vase

The Alder’s tall, narrow profile is particularly well suited to sculptural, gestural stem arrangements — the kind that rely on negative space and movement rather than density. A few dramatic branches, arranged loosely within the cylinder, can occupy significant vertical and horizontal space in a room while the vase itself remains visually restrained, letting the botanical elements do the visual work.

Its compact footprint also makes it a flexible piece for smaller surfaces, entryway consoles, or narrow shelves, where a wider vase might not comfortably fit but a tall, slender one can add real presence without crowding the space.

Care Instructions

1. Clean the glass cylinder with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge; a bottle brush can help reach the interior.
2. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely to avoid water spots on the smoked glass.
3. For mineral deposits or residue, soak the affected area in a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water, then rinse the glass thoroughly.
4. Wipe the wood base with a soft, dry cloth regularly; avoid leaving the base in standing water or prolonged moisture contact.
5. If the wood base gets damp, dry it immediately with a soft cloth to prevent warping or water marks.
6. Avoid abrasive scrubbers on either the glass or wood, and keep the piece away from prolonged direct sunlight to protect the wood tone.

Are the glass cylinder and wood base one fixed piece, or separable?
(Confirm with your production team whether the two components are fixed or detachable, and update this answer accordingly.)
